I still have a wonderful book on the Vikings I bought while living in Stockholm from 1989 to 1992. The Danish and Norwegian vikings tended to go west into the Atlantic but the Swedish vikings went east. Their name for themselves spelled various ways was Ros and the land they conquered centered in modern Kiev became Rossiya or Russia. As you point out they didn't stop in Kiev but continued all the way to Constantinople.

Hurrah! I curiously looked into my Western Civ textbook from 1968 certain that I would be reminded of this history which is just magically amazing, and jiminy, no mention whatsoever about this connection. And fifty-seven or so years later new history about old history! I love your attitude toward life and smile in my admiration for your sharing of our connection. Albeit, making us, I believe, even a little more accountable for each other. Thank you!
