On July 4th I completed a series of 100 posts about songs. It was inspired by my MFAH 100 project, which was 100 words about 100 objects from the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in honor of their 100th anniversary last year. (That project is coming out as a book this fall, published by the museum—it’s at the printer as I write, hooray!)
I enjoyed poking around for songs and writing about them. As with the MFAH project, I bookended the music series with Texans (Roy Orbison at the beginning; Beyoncé and Willie Nelson at the end). And for now, I'm taking a break from 100 lists. I have ideas for essays that have been accumulating like snowdrifts, and my goal is to write and publish those twice a week for the next month or so. Shovel the path clear, if you will.
After that, I’m planning a series on Houston artists, the details of which I’m still figuring out. The short version is that I’ll be doing a deep dive into individual artists’ bodies of work, hopefully in an interesting format, or formats. I'd like to produce a zine about each artist as part of the project, which is something I've never done before.
Thanks to everyone who encouraged me through the Music 100 by liking posts, commenting, or reaching out to me directly. It means the world to know the work is reaching people and is appreciated.
More soon! Hope you and yours are well. Thanks again.

Wow! Thanks for a great series... Cant wait for the next project/essays.
Thank you!
Hooray! I'm glad you're continuing because I've shared your work with friends in Philadelphia and Arizona and Colorado! I'm excited about the book, too! Blessings....
