A young woman prepares herself for a glamorous night out. Her gown is laid out on the bed, but she’s still in her ruffled nightie, girlish and innocent, her hair down. She’s nervous—hoping to be a success, that’s what the song is about. She is meant to become a man’s paid mistress, as her grandmother and great aunt were before her, both magnificent courtesans of the highest class. It will all end in respectable marriage, of course, though we’re less hung up about such things nowadays. The moment when an awkward girl blossoms into resplendent womanhood, however—that’s evergreen.
“Say a Prayer for Me Tonight,” from Gigi, 1958. Written by Alan Jay Lerner & Frederick Loewe. Performed by Leslie Caron, dubbed by Betty Wand.

Ahhh, the memories. Mother wanted to see the picture; I was 11, and she and Susan and I went. I loved it, but didn't understand it; at that time I wasn't capable, but I knew I loved the singing and elegance; Mother wasn't quite ready to explain it to me. It's a good memory for me and the Swain women! Thank you!
Interesting choice..Classic. Thank you!
