Not only was the media the result of an "engine of our ingenuity," but the uses to which it was applied were also inventive.

I used to feel very guilty when highlighting (another great invention, the yellow highlighter!) and writing in margins of books. (An act of desecration, IMHO) But having stacks of peel-off Post-it notes was the perfect remedy. They served as bookmarks, too. At our book club meetings, the facilitator often has a copy of the book being discussed laden with multi-colored post-it notes!

It’s a great use for them! The original application of the adhesive came up because a researcher at 3M wanted a bookmark for his hymnal that wouldn’t damage the pages.

I remember when I was in college when the use of Post-It notes became popular and thinking the little notes left on people's dorm room doors looked extremely mod! Strange to think that such a simple piece of technology could have an attractive, cool vibe.
