There's a great piece by Philip Schuyler in the October 14, 1991 New Yorker about the artist James Acord, who built sculptures with embedded orange Fiesta Ware. The color that was most radioactive. The title of the piece is "Moving to Richland" and refers to an area in Washington State.

Grandmother had these dishes, as did my parents. Also Fire King mugs that came in oatmeal. I still use the Fire King mugs for coffee!
